An on-premises licence authorises the sale of liquor for consumption on the licensed premises. This page explains how to apply for a licence.
Any business with appropriate planning permission is eligible to seek an on-premises licence.For requirements and more information about what you can do with an on-premises licence, please see Things to consider before applying.
Note: Restaurants and cafes whose predominant activity, at all times, is the preparation and serving of meals for consumption on the premises should apply for a Restaurant and cafe licence.

A late night (on-premises) licence authorises the supply of alcohol for on-premises consumption after 1am.
Businesses wishing to trade with an on-premises liquor licence past 1am. Restaurants and cafes operating under a restaurant and cafe licence have a lower risk of alcohol-related harm. Consequently, they do not need to apply for a late night licence if they continue to trade after 1am.

Note: that there is currently a freeze on late night licence applications in the Local Government areas of Melbourne, Port Phillip, Stonnington and Yarra.
