Note: Restaurants and cafes whose predominant activity, at all times, is the preparation and serving of meals for consumption on the premises should apply for a Restaurant and cafe licence.

Apply for an on-premises licence

Apply for a late night (on-premises) licence

A late night (on-premises) licence authorises the supply of alcohol for on-premises consumption after 1am.

Who would normally apply?

Businesses wishing to trade with an on-premises liquor licence past 1am. Restaurants and cafes operating under a restaurant and cafe licence have a lower risk of alcohol-related harm. Consequently, they do not need to apply for a late night licence if they continue to trade after 1am.

To apply for a late night (on-premises) licence, download and complete the *Late night (general or on-premises) licence application kit. Details on how to lodge your completed application are included in the kit.

Note: that there is currently a freeze on late night licence applications in the Local Government areas of Melbourne, Port Phillip, Stonnington and Yarra.
