Renew your liquor licence

The VGCCC is moving the renewal process to digital. Renewal notices and liquor licences will now be sent via email.

If you don't create a Liquor Portal account, you'll receive your renewal notice by post. You'll still need to ensure your postal address contact details are up to date or you run the risk of missing your annual renewal notice leading to non-payment of your licence.

Renewal notices are issued each year from late November with payment due in full by 31 December irrespective of when the licence was granted. Each licence incurs a separate fee. Several factors determine how much you are required to pay.

For information on licence fees see: Liquor fees and fines 1 July 2022

To receive your annual renewal notice via email, you'll need to register a Liquor Portal account, associate your licence and sign-up for eLicence.

Payment options are listed on the renewal notice. Once payment is made, your liquor licence will be emailed within five working days ready to print and display at the licensed venue.

Register a Liquor Portal account

Registration is completed in just three easy steps.

To begin, you'll need your liquor licence number and the licence PIN. This can be found on your last renewal notice or by emailing [email protected].

Step 1: Create a Liquor Portal account

Step 2: Associate your licence or permit using your licence number and individual four-digit PIN.

Step 3: Click eLicence and add the email you want your renewal notice and liquor licence sent to. (this can differ from the email address used to create your Liquor Portal account).

Full step by step guidance can be found here

Benefits of a Liquor Portal account

Once you are registered you can:

  • download copies of your renewal notice and liquor licence
  • download your venue’s red line plan
  • apply to add, replace or remove the Nominee associated with your liquor licence or permit
  • apply to add, replace or remove the Director(s) associated with your liquor licence or permit

When to expect your renewal notice

Liquor licence renewal notices are issued annually in late November. Liquor licensees registered for eLicence via the VGCCC Liquor Portal will be emailed their renewal notice and those not registered for eLicence via the Liquor Portal will be sent their renewal notice by post.

Payment is due by 31 December. Once payment has been made, we will email you your liquor licence within five working days ready for you to print and display at your licensed premises if you are registered for eLicence. For those not registered for eLicence licence copies will be posted out in February.

How to find lost renewal notices and liquor licences

If you have lost your renewal notice or liquor licence, you can login to your Liquor Portal account and download a copy at any time under the eLicence section.

Payment for licence renewal

Payment must be made in full by 31 December to the State Revenue Office using one of the following methods:

BPay: Biller code 47316.
Reference number: Last seven digits of the liquor licence number.

Credit card: Visit the State Revenue Office website (link: www.sro.vic.gov.au/payment) or by phoning 13 21 61. A card payment fee applies.

Please note: You cannot pay your renewal fee through the Liquor Portal.

Reduce or waive renewal fees

Liquor licence fees are a standard business cost for all licensees, and as such all licensees should factor this fee into their business planning.

Information on options that are available to licensees to reduce annual renewal fees, including changes to trading hours, patron capacities or waiver or reduction applications are available on the reduce or waive renewal fee webpage here .

Please note the fee reduction or waiver is designed to provide licensees with once-off assistance in exceptional circumstances. If you have previously been granted a fee waiver or reduction, this will be taken into account if you make another application for a fee waiver or reduction.).  Any application to have your fee reduced or waived should be lodged by 31 December.
