Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training gives people working in licensed venues the skills and knowledge to ensure safe and responsible licensed premises.
During the Declared State of Emergency (COVID-19), the approved training delivery method has been revised. For more information, see: Delivering RSA training safely For RTO guidelines to deliver RSA via interactive video or virtual video, see: Guidelines for RSA training (PDF, 85.7 KB) |
RSA training is mandatory for licensees and staff selling, offering or serving liquor for general, on-premises, late night and packaged liquor licences. We can also add an RSA condition to any liquor licence if we think it is needed.
Licensees and staff who are subject to mandatory RSA requirements have one month from the date they first sell, offer for sale or serve liquor on a licensed premise to complete an approved RSA training course.
Once you have completed the initial Victorian RSA course, you must complete a free online refresher course every three years, see: RSA refresher course
A person under the age of 18 can complete an approved RSA training course but must wait until they turn 18 to use it.
Until 30 June 2021, you can complete either the Victorian RSA (face to face) or the nationally accredited RSA - Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB002) course face to face or online to work in a licensed venue in Victoria.
During the declared State of Emergency, accredited RTOs can offer the Victorian RSA course via virtual classroom.
A VCGLR branded certificate will be provided to you by an accredited RTO upon completion of one of the above courses. You will need to provide this to your employer as evidence you have completed a Victorian approved course if required. SITHFAB002 certificates will not be accepted by our inspectors. See below for accepted RSA certificates.
