IMPORTANT NOTICE: A Declared State of Emergency is currently in place across Victoria. For more information, see: COVID-19 information for licensees
Trading hours on ANZAC Day vary for different gaming or liquor licences.
The Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 (the Act) includes restrictions regarding the supply of liquor on ANZAC Day. To see your ANZAC Day trading hours, check the details on your current liquor licence and any special conditions which may restrict your trading hours.
Generally, the Act restricts the supply of liquor before 12 noon on ANZAC Day, but some exemptions apply. General trading hours for licensees on ANZAC Day are:
ANZAC Day trading restrictions do not apply to:
Gaming on ANZAC Day
Gaming on ANZAC Day is only permitted during the same hours as when the supply of liquor is allowed, as stated on a venue’s liquor licence. Operating gaming machines outside of permitted trading hours is an offence and may result in enforcement action.
Licensees should note however that there are current Government restrictions in place in response to coronavirus issued under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, including that licensed clubs; licensed premises including hotels and pubs, entertainment venues and cinemas, casinos and nightclubs, gaming or gambling venues and adult entertainment premises must all close. For more information and updates, see: Coronavirus (COVID-19) information for licensees |
Temporary limited and major event licences
Applications for major event licences for ANZAC Day are not currently being considered due to coronavirus restrictions. For information on temporary limited licences at this time, see: Coronavirus (COVID-19) information for licensees
If you have been granted a licence for a temporary or major event and that event has been, or is likely to be, postponed due to coronavirus, we may be able to move your licence to a new date, free of charge. If you are cancelling your event and your application has already been assessed and a licence granted, please note that processes to refund your application fee are still under consideration. |
Temporary limited and major event licences
Applications for major event licences for ANZAC Day are not currently being considered due to COVID-19 restrictions. For information on temporary limited licences at this time, see: Coronavirus (COVID-19) information for licensees
Returned and Services League (RSL) Clubs and Sub-branches
RSL clubs and sub-branches may apply for an extension to ordinary trading hours on ANZAC day.
The Gambling Regulation Act 2003 only permits the conduct of a game of two up on ANZAC Day, or in the seven days leading up to ANZAC Day, each year at any RSL club, sub-branch or any venue used by the RSL.
Given the current restrictions and venue closures in place in response to coronavirus, it is unlikely that two up will be conducted as patrons are not able to attend those venues.
Ordinarily, the Victorian State Branch approves all RSL club and sub-branch applications to play two up. This includes two up games on ANZAC Day itself and commemorative functions seven days prior to ANZAC Day.
