The VCGLR may approve events, or classes of events, of any kind for betting purposes, whether those events are held entirely or partly within or outside Victoria. This page outlines approved betting events.

The approval of a betting competition must specify whether it is a competition with fixed odds or a competition conducted on a totalisator.

The following events or classes of events (for example, a particular league or sport) listed below have been approved by the VCGLR for sports betting purposes:

Athletics Meetings controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Australian football Games that form part of the Australian Football League and Victorian Football League competitions including the State of Origin series and the Brownlow Medal Vote Count.
Badminton Controlled and regulated by Badminton Australia and/or Badminton World Federation except for those competitions restricted to age groups less than 18 years of age, and when those events are contested in the following tournaments:
  • Badminton World Championships
  • Badminton Super Series
  • The Uber Cup
  • The Sudirman Cup
  • The Badminton Grand Prix
  • Li Ning, Clendinnen Shield
  • Australian Closed Championships.
Baseball Matches controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Basketball Matches controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Boxing Contests controlled and regulated by national or international authorities (subject to the condition that separate individual approval of boxing contests taking place in the Commonwealth of Australia be sought except if the contest is an officially sanctioned national and international boxing title fight).
Cricket Matches controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Cycling Events controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Darts Events controlled and regulated by the World Darts Federation of the Professional Darts Corporation.
Field hockey Controlled and regulated by Hockey Australia and/or the International Hockey Federation (FIH – Federation Internationale de Hockey) and contested in the following tournaments:
  • Olympic Games
  • Commonwealth Games
  • Hockey World Cup (Men’s and Women’s)
  • Hockey World League (Men’s and Women’s)
  • Hockey Champions Trophy
  • Hockey Champions League
  • Hockey Indoor World Cup
  • Australian Hockey League
  • Hockey National Championships.
Golf Events controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Ice hockey Matches controlled and regulated by the American National Ice Hockey League.
International rules Games controlled and regulated by the Australian Football League and the Gaelic Athletic Association.
Ironman Events controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Lawn bowls Controlled and regulated by Bowls Australia and/or World Bowls when those events are contested in the following competitions (except those competitions restricted to age groups less than 18 years of age):
  • Bowls Australia Australian Premier League
  • Bowls Australia Australian Open
  • Bowls Australia Indoor Championships
  • Bowls Australia Australian Sides Championships
  • Bowls Australia National Champion of Champions
  • events and tournaments conducted and controlled by Bowls Australia
  • events and tournaments conducted and controlled by World Bowls.
Motor sport Races controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Netball Matches controlled and regulated by national and international authorities.
Olympic and Commonwealth Games Contingencies of, or relating to events at Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
Professional snooker Events controlled and regulated by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.
Rugby Matches controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Soccer Matches controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Surfing Events controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.
Tennis Tournaments controlled and regulated by state, national and international authorities.
Triathlon Events controlled and regulated by national and international authorities.
Volleyball (including beach volleyball) Controlled and regulated by Volleyball Australia and/or the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB - Federation Internationale de Volleyball) in the following non-restrictive aged tournaments:
  • FIVB World Championships
  • events sanctioned by FIVB or affiliated internal or national organisations, such as Men's and Women's World League, World Grand Prix, World Championships, World Cup
  • beach volleyball events sanctioned by FIVB or affiliated international or national organisations, such as Men's and Women's Renault National Beach Volleyball series
  • Olympic Games.
Yachting Events controlled and regulated by national or international authorities.

Australian Rules Football Games that form part of the Australian Football League competition including the State of Origin series.
