Changes to publication of public notices in statewide newspapers

Requirements to publish notices in statewide newspapers are being modernised from 31 July 2022.

Under the new laws, a legal requirement to publish public notices in statewide newspapers can be met by publishing the public notice on a centralised Victorian Government website.

Progressively from 31 July 2022, government notices will start to be published on the website.

Later in 2022, businesses will have an option to publish their statewide newspaper notices online,  initially for free. This is not mandatory, and businesses can continue to publish in newspapers if they wish.

This may apply to you if you are:

  • applying for a gaming venue, bingo centre or commercial raffle organiser’s licence
  • applying for listing on the roll of manufacturers, suppliers and testers
  • a public lottery licensee publishing notice of the making of lottery rules

There are no changes to requirements to publish notices in regional and local newspapers – these must still be published as required under existing law.

The central website will allow the public to search and locate many public notices through a single location, and to revisit a notice more easily. Businesses will be able to access their notice on the website to demonstrate compliance.

The new Victorian Government website for public notices is Public Notices
