Venue operators must have a Responsible Gaming Code of Conduct. Under the Ministerial Directions for Harm Minimisation, venues have a duty to take all reasonable steps to prevent and minimise harm and must not induce a person to obtain more money to play a gaming machine.
The VGCCC has identified a venue operator proposing a third party be allowed to enter their venue and purchase jewellery from patrons. After contact with the VGCCC the venue operator cancelled this proposal.
Schemes of this nature contravene the intent of the Ministerial Direction to prevent and minimise harm from gaming machines. Venues must ensure any actions are consistent with their obligations under the Responsible Gambling Codes of Conduct.
The VGCCC’s purpose is to ensure integrity, safety and fairness to all – we are watching all gambling operators through a lens of harm minimisation and will direct our powers to those that do not meet their obligations.
